The Artistic Fate of Calligraphy
Calligraphy is the art of writing Arabic font especially Islam prays and praises to Allah and Muhammad the Prophet. In Muslim countries such as Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and many others, calligraphy has its own style. Although they have different writing standard, calligraphy in different countries still look artistic and beautiful.
Words and praises that are commonly used for calligraphy are including ‘alhamdulillah’, ‘subhanallah’, ‘Allahu Akbar’, and many others. Most of them do not include the meanings; therefore, the readers must understand what the calligraphy means.
In Indonesia, calligraphy is shown and made on media such as wood, fiber, papers, etc. After they are being carved or painted, they will be colored using colors like gold and silver. Choosing gold and silver for calligraphy can make the result amazing. It looks luxurious and artistic both ways. Therefore, people tend to use calligraphy to be put on the wall in order to show the artistic and religious part of their houses.
Calligraphy is being sold quite expensive due to the difficulties in making it. Some home industries even succeeded in selling not only to big cities in Indonesia, but also other cities abroad. This shows how exporting calligraphy is still a good and promising industry in Indonesia.
